Add-Ons & Special Finishes FAQs - Ryt Packaging

Ryt Packaging offers a range of premium add-ons to help you personalize your packaging boxes. Below are answers to frequently asked questions about metallic foiling, embossing, debossing, window patching, window cutouts, and spot UV. This guide explains how each feature works, which materials are best suited, and how design choices can influence the final appearance.

brands

Metallic foiling is a process where heat and pressure are used to transfer a shiny, reflective foil layer onto selected areas of packaging. It adds a high-end, luxurious touch and is commonly used for brand logos and accents. We produce fully personalized boxes with gold foil custom logo at wholesale prices.

We offer gold, silver, rose gold, copper, blue, and other custom foil shades. Metallic foils appear more vivid and eye-catching on darker-colored surfaces of the custom packaging boxes, as the contrast boosts the reflective effect.

White card stock and rigid box stock work best for foiling due to their smooth, solid surfaces. Kraft paper can also be foiled, but a printed base layer in a darker color is often recommended for better visibility.

Embossing raises selected text or artwork above the surface of the box to create a three-dimensional effect. It gives the design a tactile, professional finish that stands out to the touch and eye.

Debossing presses the design into the material, creating a recessed look rather than a raised one. Both techniques are used to add texture and visual interest, but the result depends on the desired style.

On rigid boxes, blind embossing or debossing (without foil or ink) can appear subtle due to the material’s thickness. To enhance the visibility, it’s recommended to use a slightly darker printed color for logos or text before applying the emboss or deboss. Window patching adds a transparent film (usually biodegradable PET) over a custom die-cut window box on the box. This allows the product to remain visible while being protected from dust, handling, or environmental exposure.

A window cutout is an open section on the packaging box without any covering, allowing the customer to touch or smell the product directly – common in die-cut box packaging for candles, soaps, and natural goods.

Use window patching when product hygiene is important, such as with food or cosmetics. Choose a cutout when customer interaction is beneficial, such as with textured or scented items.

Yes. We use biodegradable PET film for window patching. It provides visibility and protection while remaining eco-conscious and recyclable.

Spot UV is a high-gloss coating applied only to specific areas of your design—typically logos, headlines, or product highlights. It adds contrast, shine, and focus against matte or uncoated backgrounds.

White card stock and rigid box materials are ideal for most add-ons due to their smooth surfaces and structural integrity. Kraft can also be enhanced with spot UV, foiling, or debossing when supported by printed darker backgrounds.

Absolutely. Many premium boxes combine embossing with metallic foiling, or spot UV over matte lamination, to elevate branding and enhance the unboxing experience.

Finishes like foil and spot UV may add minor elements to the recycling process, but all our materials are recyclable, and finishes are applied selectively to maintain sustainability.

Consider your product type, brand image, and packaging goals. For elegance, use foil. For texture, go with embossing or debossing. For interactivity, use window options. And for highlight effects, add spot UV.
